Rare Diseases
Rare diseases, as defined in Europe and other developed countries, occur at a frequency of 1 in 2000 or less, most of which are progressive, metabolic, chronic, and some of which can be fatal. Approximately 8000 rare diseases have been identified in the scientific literature, and 80% of these are genetically inherited. Approximately 50% of patients are children. Up to 30% of children with rare diseases do not reach the age of 5. This is primarily due to the fact that 95% of rare diseases are incurable. Rare diseases are seen in 1 out of every 16 people in Türkiye. Five million people in Türkiye and approximately 350 million people in the world have a rare disease. Each disease has its characteristics. This requires particular care and treatment methods, medicines, consumables, special foods, and medical devices.
We are aware of the fragility in the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases all over the world, especially in Türkiye. With this awareness, we will work sensitively with all patient associations and international associates for the diagnosis and treatment of rare diseases.
